Bae Sang-Yun

Abstract
In order to investigate body mass index and recognizing of body weight of college students, we collected the data of 182 college students in Jeol labuk-do area for one month in May, 2011 and analyzed them. Followings are the results therefrom.
Results. (1) When hours of sleep a day is over 7 hours, the distributions of normal weight group,¡¤ non smokers group and regular ly exercising group were high in the rate of under weight, whereas the distributions of overweight and obesity group were low. (2) The male obesity group tended to recognize themselves as overweight and the female under weight group tended to recognize themselves as normal weight. Male students were not satisfied with their under weight and obesity, but female students did not show any difference from satisfactions about their weight by BMI. (3) While the male overweight group tended to wrongly recognize themselves as a normal body type, the female under weight group tended to wrongly recognize themselves as a normal body type. Among male groups, the dissatisfaction of the under weight group and the obesity group was high, but female students did not show significant difference in BMI groups, which can be guessed that they are not satisfied with their body type regardless of weight.
This result shows male students have problems of overweight and female students have those of under weight. These college students are not satisfied with their weight and body types regardless of their 8MI groups. We need to develop the data for correct health education about weight and body type recognition for college students.
